The forum Early Detection of Pancreatic Cancer: The Role of Industry in the Development of Biomarkers was held on October 27, 2016 in Boston and presented by the Kenner Family Research Fund (KFRF) in partnership with the American Pancreatic Association (APA). This forum was the next step in the strategic plan initially set forth at the Early Detection of Sporadic Pancreatic Cancer Summit Conference in 2014.

This forum provided a unique and exciting opportunity to increase awareness of industry’s role in the development of biomarkers. Presentations included an overview of the Current State of Biomarkers by Sudhir Srivastava, Ph.D., MPH, MS, and research updates from GRAIL (Menlo Park, California), Immunovia (Lund, Sweden), and Project Survival (a collaboration between Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Pancreatic Cancer Research Team, and Berg Pharma).

Following the presentations, a conversation between the distinguished panelists and the audience was facilitated by Suresh T. Chari, M.D., Director of the Pancreas Clinic at the Mayo Clinic and Stephen J. Pandol, M.D., Director, Basic and Translational Pancreas Research in the Department of Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

The paper “Early Detection of Pancreatic Cancer: The Role of Industry in the Development of Biomarkers” was published in the journal Pancreas in 2017.
